Stud Terminal Blocks

When establishing the circuitry of a system, there are many ways in which wires can be connected to one another. While line splicing often serves as a simplistic method, it has the chance of creating an unsafe connection that may not be able to be repaired or replaced easily. Furthermore, splicing is not optimal when there is a need to connect multiple wires together or create a series of localized connections. In such cases, a terminal block is most often used. Consisting of a simple modular block with clamping mechanisms and conducting strips, such components can allow for the connection of multiple wires in an efficient and organized fashion.

When wires are connected within a system in which components may be faced with high amounts of vibration, a stud terminal block in particular may be used due to its abilities. With the stud terminal block, a wire can be connected by crimping it to a ring or fork lug that has been screwed on a current bar. As such, electrical connections can be made for multiple wires without the need for stripping and tying. Depending on what is required for the system and its wiring, stud terminal blocks may come in the form of feed-through, disconnect and test, and power terminal block types.

When there is a need to connect internal or external connectors, a feed-through terminal block is the ideal choice. To best accommodate systems that may vary in their wiring complexity, feed-through terminal blocks may present more than one connection level in order to accommodate multiple connections. Typically, these levels will feature the same potential as other connections, and they may be insulated against one another as well. To make attachment easier, some feed-through types may not require any tools for connecting wires as a push-lever spring connection or similar component may secure the assembly.

With disconnect and test terminal blocks, regulatory, measuring, and control circuits are accommodated for their connections. With a slide link, disconnecting wires from the assembly can be done easy with the use of a screw driver. As various jumpers may be present on the terminal block, one can short terminals or achieve temporary shorting. As the disconnect and test terminal block type is meant for garnering data measurements, testing points may be present to facilitate the connection of a test probe.

With the power terminal block, wires that have large cross sections can be served well with secure crimping provided for connections. For more simplified and organized connections, power block terminals may feature a mounting assembly so that they may be attached to a rail. Furthermore, certain manufacturers may also specifically design their terminal blocks to have hinged protective covers, allowing for multiple terminal blocks to be stacked together. The cover also serves to protect the terminal block itself from shock, ensuring that sensitive components are kept safe.

With any of the three primary stud terminal block types, wires can be interconnected with ease while remaining safe against the forces of vibration. As such, stud terminal blocks may serve well for aerospace applications due to their capabilities. As aircraft terminal blocks, wire terminations for the aircraft electrical system can be conducted with ease.
