Which Military Forklift is Right for My Company?

Forklifts are a significant component in the supply chain sector, as they’re found in virtually every warehouse in existence—and for good reason. They’re extremely useful in carrying and transporting heavy stacks of items from one to another. Without them, the supply chain process would be a much lengthier process. If you’re looking to invest in a forklift for your company, be sure to do your research first. There are many different categories of military forklifts, each of which require different certifications and are designed to meet specific demands. See below to read about the different types of forklifts available in the market.

Electric Motor Rider Trucks

A Class 1 forklift, these are the most versatile and commonly used amongst supply chain warehouses. That’s because they can be customized with pneumatic or cushion tires, making them useful for either outdoor use on dry terrain or indoor use on smooth floors. You can find this class of forklift on anything from storage facilities to port loading docks.

Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks

Rough terrain forklifts are a Class 7 type of forklift, meaning they’re typically used for more heavy duty types of labor. A standard for the military, auto recyclers, and lumber yards, these forklifts are equipped with bulky floatation tires to withstand rough or rocky surfaces. They are able to go long distances while carrying heavy materials.

Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks

True to its name, this category of forklift is designed to navigate through narrow aisles, which makes them perfect for operating in supply, storage, and inventory warehouses. Unlike its bulkier sisters, the electric motor narrow aisle truck takes up less space, is faster, and can run more efficiently.

Hand-Rider Trucks

Also known as electric motor hand trucks, these Class 3 forklifts are hand controlled. The operator sits at the front and uses a steering tiller to command the lift. Using the control located on the upper tiller, the operator can steer the truck by moving the tiller side to side. You’ll typically see these types of forklifts being used to carry pallets.
