The Different Types of Shipment Military Trailers

When shipping commodities, equipment, and more, it is important to ensure that the right type of trailer is used for the protection of items and ease of shipment. Whether the item is standard, large, temperature sensitive, or a liquid, there are various types of trailers that would best benefit shipment of these items. In this blog, we will provide a short overview of various common types of trailers, as well as commodities that ship best with them.

Dry Van Trailers: Dry van trailers are most commonly used for standard cargo transportation and consist of a box trailer that has no temperature control. They are useful for commodities such as clothing, electronics, plastics, and other non-temperature sensitive products. Dry van trailers have a cargo door at the back of the trailer for loading and unloading and are enclosed to protect the products inside. Trailers of these types typically range from 48 to 53 feet in length.

Refrigerated Trailers: These types of trailers are very similar to dry van trailers, though differ in the fact that they feature temperature control that can be set to specific temperatures depending on the commodity carried. Commodities that find use in refrigerated trailers include dairy products, perishables, computer servers, and other temperature sensitive items.

Flatbeds: Flatbed trailers can provide transportation for a wide range of products as there are no walls or roofing for these types. Large items and equipment can be stored and shipped on flatbeds, as well as can be loaded and unloaded easier with its open platform. Items that are shipped on these types of trailers often require protection with tarps or other similar covers.

Military Trailers: A military trailer or military truck is useful for the transportation and shipment of fuel, supplies, and troops. These types of trailers can vary in size and design depending on the application and country of origin, and often they are designed for driving on paved roads, as well as unpaved dirt roads.

Other types of trailers outside of these discussed types include tankers for transportation of liquids and loose materials, as well as variants of flatbeds and deck trailers for larger items that may be too large or irregularly shaped.
