The Most Common Forklift Replacement Parts

Like any machinery, forklifts are subject to wear and tear over time. There are many important parts of a forklift that must be regularly maintained and eventually replaced. Neglecting these parts can cause serious problems and ultimately lead to the failure of your forklift. In this blog, we will discuss the most important forklift replacement parts.

Oil Filter

The oil filter is a critical component of the forklift, as it removes contaminants from the vehicle's engine oils that can accumulate over time. Because the particles that circulate in your forklift’s engine can affect its performance, it is important to have a clean and functional oil filter at all times. The frequency with which you should replace your filters depends on the capacity of your machine. Consult your user manual to be aware of what filters to use and how often they should be replaced.

Forklift Chain

Chains are perhaps the most overworked part of a forklift. Many forklift owners do not bother replacing it until a link breaks, but even then, many would simply repair the link and move on. Using a chain beyond its limits is never a good idea. Over time, chains elongate, losing their strength and efficacy. In general, it is a good idea to replace the chain every three years.

Air Filter

Some might argue that the air filter is not a critical part of a forklift, especially in forklifts without air conditioning. However, air filters not only filter the air that goes through the air conditioning system, but also the air your engine uses. The air filter removes impurities such as dust, pollen, and micro seeds, preventing them from entering your engine. Much like an oil filter, air filters have limited capacities. Consult your user manual to determine how often it should be replaced.

Brake Master Cylinder and Wheel Cylinder Caps & Seals

Experts recommend that you replace the forklift’s brake master cylinder every 12 months or 2,000 hours of use. Regular replacement of the cylinder caps and seals will ensure you avoid leakage in the machine’s brake system. As for the wheel cylinder caps and seals, good seals will prevent debris from entering the bearings and hindering the performance of the wheel. It also helps the wheel stay properly lubricated. Failing or broken wheel seals and caps should be replaced immediately, otherwise they should be replaced every year or 2,000 work hours.

Hydraulics, Fuel, and Torque Converter Rubber Hoses

These three hoses are the most critical components to a forklift’s function. As such, they should be replaced every two years and checked regularly for leaks and impurities every quarter, with no exceptions. A leak in one of these hoses will not only drastically affect the performance of a forklift, but can also lead to accidents.

Swing Lock Cylinder

The swing lock cylinder is another important part of the forklift. In the event of your machine becoming unstable, the swing lock cylinder can instantly change the stability footprint of the forklift from triangular to rectangular, adding stability to the base of the machine. This part must be replaced every 10,000 hours of use, regardless of how long that is in real time.
